Poetics Journal Number 7

ISBN: (ISSN)07315236
Berkeley, CA: Poetics Journal, 1987. First Printing. Softcover. This number of the literary journal edited by Lyn Hejinian & Barrett Watten is entitled "Postmodern?", & its entries tackle that broad late-twentieth century theme of postmodernism. Featuring a fictional excerpt ("Ugly") by Kathy Acker (1947-1997), the harshly innovative postmodern exemplar who was influenced by William S. Burroughs. Also a "Symposium" of essays by Acker & others; contributions by the noted poet- theorist Robert Gluck & many others. In Gluck's essay ("Truth's Mirror is No Mirror"), there is a highlighted phrase which we find a haunting key: "...the destruction of human scale is the major event of the twentieth century." A scarce, thoughtful resource for the literary scholar & collector. In good condition with mild-to-moderate rubbing, spotting, scratching & light creasing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear, short creases & tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; several small-to-tiny areas of surface loss near right edge of front cover; very light rubbing & occasional spotting at edges of text block; one small water(?) stain at upper right edge of same. Interior in near-fine condition with only very faint rubbing-staining of blank upper-side margins of many page leaves; neat highlighting of several passages in yellow felt tip on pages 40, 43 & 44 (at Gluck's essay, see above). Good. [Item #3178]
