North Hollywood, CA: TEMBLOR: Contemporary Poets, 1985. First Printings. Both issues signed by Clayton Eshleman at his contributions. The first two numbers of the poetry journal founded, designed & edited by Leland Hickman (1934-1991), himself an adventurous poet who produced ten Temblor issues during 1985-1989 before his untimely demise, all of which have aged into increasingly rare collectors' items. Among the distinguished contributors to these first two issues is our good friend & mentor, the acclaimed, prolific poet, educator & translator Clayton Eshleman, who has long resided near us in Michigan. The first issue features two of Eshleman's poems (untitled & "Auto----"). Below & partly over his printed name above the first, untitled poem on page 62, Eshleman has hand-signed his name in blue ink. The second issue features eight titled sections under the over-title of "Ariadne's Reunion." On the first page (3), Eshleman has again hand-signed his name, this time fully below his printed name, in the apparently same blue ink. Other contributors include George Butterick, most known for his work with & about the great Black Mountain-&-Beyond poet Charles Olson (Issue 2); Clark Coolidge (Issue 1); Andrew Schelling (Issue 2); John Taggart (Issues 1&2) & many more. Large magazine-format journals, bold & stark productions with no introductions or editor's notes, just index, the poems, brief notes on contributors & a single contemporary ad for a graphic design studio in both issues. Essential & very desirable rarities for the modern poetry collector, especially with the signed poems by Eshleman. Issue Number 1 in fine condition with only mild rubbing & a few tiny gauge-spots with miniscule loss of surface to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; very light rubbing to edges of text block; very small hand-written letter "w" at upper edge of text block near spine. Interior very fine with only small bump-creases at corners of some page leaves. Issue Number 2 in very fine condition with only lightest rubbing & a few tiny, faint scratches to front, back covers & spine; very light wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; one tiny spot at middle area of upper text block edge. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Fine; Very Fine. [Item #3278]
