Ypsilanti, MI: Eastern Michigan University, 1989. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Clayton Eshleman. The twenty-fifth number of the highly acclaimed "Literary Bi-Annual of the Whole Art," edited & with a contribution by the venerable, award-winning poet, translator & scholar Clayton Eshleman; co-(managing) edited by his wife Caryl. This issue features an untitled, then newly-published 1956 poem by the great (in all senses) American poet Charles Olson (1910-1970), "(beginning) The chain of memory is resurrection...". Also the poems "Guyton Place" by Eshleman; "The Dispersal" by pioneering ethno-poeticist Jerome Rothenberg (who is also on Sulfur's masthead along with other prestigious figures); & much more poetry & prose. On the title-masthead page, Eshleman has hand-written his signature near upper right edge. As ever with this holistic journal, there are visual art portfolios, including stills of performance art by Cusi Masuda (also on front cover); paintings by Charlie Rand & the famous Heidelberg Project houses-altered-as-art of Tyree Guyton in Detroit (the subject of Eshleman's poem). With notes on contributors, contemporary ads (including for our beloved late mentor Karl Pohrt's late Ann Arbor bookshop, Shaman Drum, on inner front cover). Another deep, important issue in this very collectible series, especially with Eshleman's signature. In very fine condition with only lightest rubbing of front, back covers & spine; just a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; slight sunning at spine & spine-edges. Interior very fine, all but mint. Very Fine. [Item #3323]
