Bloodshot Bill Sings Charles Plymell

Wallkill, NY; Florence, MA: Bottle of Smoke Press; Feeding Tube Records, 2016. Limited First Edition. Chapbook in Sewn Binding; 7" Vinyl Record in Sleeve. Signed by Charles Plymell & Bloodshot Bill. A most interesting & extremely rare production in which Charles Plymell, the legendary literary outlaw poet-editor-publisher, teams with Bloodshot Bill, the acclaimed Montreal-born one-man-band rockabilly musician. A collaboration between Bill Roberts' venerable Bottle of Smoke Press & Feeding Tube Records: A lovely, large-format chapbook in hand-sewn binding with two poems by Plymell, "Rapid Ronnie Rap Back Jive- Kansas (1955)," about his early times with artist & kindred spirit Robert Branaman; & "Really Really Neal- San Francisco (1963)," about his adventures with his good friend, Beat Generation icon Neal Cassady, at their Gough Street residence during the first San Francisco Renaissance. With reproductions of many photos of the two subjects, some in the company of Plymell, as well as of Bloodshot Bill, including frontispiece of Bill with a sagely, wizened Plymell. Tucked into inner rear cover is a 7" 45 rpm vinyl record of the same title, in sleeve featuring image of Bill & Plymell noted above. Each side of the record features one of the above-referred poems sung & with musical accompaniment by Bill. As noted on colophon, this is one of only 50 copies of this chapbook-record package, signed by Bill & Plymell. This is hand-numbered copy No. 33/50. A beautiful, exemplary BOSP production with a twist! In publishers' clear protective sleeve with loose paper strip on which is hand-written "#33/50." Chapbook & record both in very fine, all-but-mint condition almost as-new with only several short, faint creases at top edges of front & back covers (almost inevitable as they extend beyond interior); several small smudges on blood-red blank area of front cover, likely a minor flaw as issued; a few miniscule bumps at edges & corners of record sleeve. Very Fine. [Item #3325]
