Apocalypse Rose (Limited Signed LP) with: Ephemera

Northampton, MA; New York, NY; North Salem, NY: Open Mouth; Kick Books Co.; Bottle of Smoke Press, 2013. Limited First Edition; Original Ephemera. LP Vinyl Record in Letterpress Sleeve; Postcards; Bottled Perfume in Box. LP sleeve signed by Charles Plymell & Bill Nace; postcard signed by Charles Plymell. A most wacky bundle of rarities from Charles Plymell, the Legendary Literary Outlaw & our good friend: (1) 12" vinyl record housed in single heavy sheet folded vertically to form a loose sleeve, entitled "Apocalypse Rose." Originally the first & title poem of a collection first published in 1966 with an introduction by Allen Ginsberg, two audio performance versions of the poem are recorded here- the first side by musician Bill Nace (who founded & conducts the Open Mouth label, publisher of this item); the second side by Plymell himself. One of 150 hand-numbered copies, this is copy No. 38/150 as written on back of letterpress sleeve. According to OM's website (where this is noted as having sold out), ten copies included original artwork by album designer Rick Myers, this is not one of them. However, both Nace & Plymell have hand-written their signatures in blank lower area of rear sleeve to right of the limitation. Nace's signature includes the year of issuance (2017). Interestingly, there is a reference to "Book Published by Auerhahn Press, 1967" on rear sleeve, but take it from us- as noted above, the first print edition of the collection was published the previous year, & by Dave Haselwood personally rather than the Auerhahn Press he founded. (2) A package of promotional material compiled by Plymell consisting of: (a) A small box with affixed label containing a bottle of Apocalypse Rose perfume, beautifully presented with red wrapping paper & a tiny pink paper rose. The labels affixed to the box & bottle have a beautiful antique woman-in-a-rose logo above the suggestion that we "Read Benzedrine Highway by Charles Plymell." Benzedrine Highway (2013) is a compilation of early Plymell writings including the Apocalypse Rose collection. (b) Postcard promoting the Benzedrine Highway volume with the front cover image including a vintage photo of a very young Plymell on recto. (c) Another promotional postcard announcing a reading from the book by Plymell in Brooklyn, NY along with "The Legendary Gerard Malanga." (d) a letterpress postcard printed by Bill Roberts at the venerable Bottle of Smoke Press on behalf of Kicks Books, publisher of Benzedrine Highway, with the last stanza of "Apocalypse Rose" printed next to a red-line illustration. Below the poem, next to his printed name, Plymell has hand-signed his signature. So there we have it, a unique group of collectibles that recite & celebrate an early classic in the Plymell canon. (1) in very fine, virtually as-new condition with only a few tiny bump-creases at corners of sleeve; record in its own sleeve & apparently unplayed. (2) (a-d) also in very fine, all but as-new condition with only tiny bumps, creases at a few corners of cards. Both (1) & (2) are in publisher's (or Plymell's) clear pouches that are somewhat crinkled & with slight detachment of lower edge in the case of (1), but we have retained them as part of their original presentations. Very Fine. [Item #3345]
