ISBN: (ISSN)02724359
Chicago, IL; New York, NY: Thunder's Mouth Press, 1985. First Printing. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by Clayton Eshleman to James Perrizo. This number of the literary journal chiefly edited by Barry Silesky features two poems ("At Forest Lawn" & "The Oven of Apollo," the former a prose-poem) by Clayton Eshleman, the venerable American poet, translator & educator who has long resided near us in Michigan, our friend & mentor. Also, this issue includes an interview/conversation with Eshleman conducted & edited by Lee Bartlett, preceded by a riveting photograph of the poet by Nina Subin. On the title page, Eshleman has hand-inscribed & signed: "for Perrizo/ from/ (signed) Clayton Eshleman/ 1988/ (vertical squiggle-flourish)." James Perrizo (1944-2006) was a devoted Beat-&-Beyond scholar & collector who befriended & collected the works of Eshleman. Among the other contributors of poetry & prose in this issue are Wanda Coleman, John Jacob, Michael Orlock & many others; including a short essay & portfolio of photographs taken at the Three Mile Island nuclear accident site by Lisa Lewinz. One of the photos is also reproduced on front cover. With contemporary reviews, notes on contributors, etc. A rich & especially scarce issue in this collectible series, especially with its inscription & signature by Eshleman, association & provenance. In very fine condition with only the very slightest rubbing to black-background front, back covers & spine; a tiny bit of wear & a few miniscule bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at lower corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially pristine. Very Fine. [Item #3371]
