In his candid way, Pic defines aspects of black life that foreshadow the civil rights movement of the sixties, and the move toward black consciousness that grew out of it. Subsequently re-published in several editions with different graphics, this is an important first edition thus in the Kerouac canon. In exceptionally very fine condition with only very light rubbing, scratching & slight browning to front, back covers & spine; very light wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; light browning & rubbing to edges of text block.
