Sparrow 8: After The War (A Long Novel With Few Words)
Los Angeles, CA: Black Sparrow Press, 1973. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This early eighth number of the collectible series of pamphlets published by the venerable Black Sparrow Press & dated May 1973 on front cover, features the title poem (or rather the series of short prose-poem paragraphs) by David Antin (1932-2016), the esteemed & pioneering poet, critic & performance artist. On front cover, as with other issues in this series, is a haunting quote from D.H. Lawrence that serves as a motto: "Living, I want to depart to where I am." Also as noted on front cover, "SPARROW will appear monthly. It will print poetry, fiction, essays, criticism, commentaries & reviews. Each issue will present the work of a single author. The poet is prophet." Indeed. With list of then-current publications by the Press on back cover. A desirable rarity in the Antin canon, & this significant series. In exceptionally very fine condition with only slightest wear & a few tiny bumps & short, faint creases at edges & corners of front, back covers & stapled spine; a touch of light browning at spine; staples just beginning to rust with no discernible bleeding. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3454]
