Pasadena, CA: California Institute of Technology, 1983. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Clayton Eshleman. A vintage early number of the highly acclaimed "Literary Tri-Quarterly of the Whole Art," chiefly edited & with contributions by Clayton Eshleman, the esteemed & prolific poet, translator & scholar who has long resided near us in Michigan, our friend & mentor. With four poems from Eshleman's collection entitled Fracture, which was published during the same year (1983). On the title page, Eshleman has hand-written his signature just above & slightly into the line-border near upper edge. Also in this issue is a 1946 letter by Dada legend Antonin Artaud to Peter Watson, translated from the French into English by Eshleman & others; a series of candid photographs & text relating to a production by iconic film & theater director John Cassavetes; the poem "Maithuna" by the great Octavio Paz translated from Spanish into English by Eliot Weinberger; three poems by Beat-&-Beyond master Gary Snyder; three poems by the prolific Deep Image-&-Beyond poet Diane Wakoski (also a long-time resident of Michigan); a portfolio of photos depicting the works of mixed-media artist Timothy Washington; transcription of notes on the practice of poetry written by the venerable William Carlos Williams in 1933; & much more. With reviews, contemporary ads etc. An exemplary, essential issue in this most collectible series, especially with Eshleman's signature.
