El Corno Emplumado/ The Plumed Horn No. 11 (July 1964)

Mexico City, Mexico: El Corno Emplumado, 1964. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Diane Wakoski. The eleventh number of "A Magazine from Mexico City" (copyright page), a bilingual literary journal co-edited by the venerable Mexican writer Sergio Mondragon & the controversial expatriate writer-activist Margaret Randall, both still with us as of this writing. With a dazzling array of poems, prose & letters by mid-20th century writers from the USA & South America, representing the foremost members of the Beat Generation, San Francisco Renaissance, Black Mountain School & more: Richard Barker; a long special section devoted to Venezuelan writers including Alfredo Chacon & Miguel Lorenzo; Ron Connally; Black-Mountain-&-Beyond Master Robert Creeley; Lawrence Ferlinghetti (Happy 101st Birthday!); Murray Mednick; Thomas Merton ; Rochelle Owens; Manuel Pacheco; Belgian-born American poet Armand Schwerner; iconic Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo; Diane Wakoski; Louis Zukofsky & many more. At her contribution, Wakoski, the acclaimed & prolific Beat-influenced American poet then-associated with the Deep Image School, has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles next to the title of her poem ("Sun," pg. 7). With notes on contributors, many reproductions of artworks, contemporary ads & even the original subscription card still attached between pages 128-129. Softcover in sewn binding. An extraordinarily varied & rare compendium; & certainly among the earliest, scarcest Wakoski collectibles. In relatively very fine condition with only mild rubbing, browning & occasional tiny spotting to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; short, closed tears at lower & esp. upper spine-edges & corners; mild browning, rubbing & spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only moderate browning mostly to blank margins of page leaves; tiny bumps mostly at upper corners of some of same. Very Fine. [Item #3484]
