El Corno Emplumado/ The Plumed Horn No. 6 (April 1963)

Mexico City, Mexico: El Corno Emplumado, 1963. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Diane Wakoski. The sixth number of "A Magazine from Mexico City" (copyright page), a bilingual literary journal co-edited by the respected Mexican writer Sergio Mondragon & the controversial expatriate writer-activist Margaret Randall, both still with us & active as of this writing. With an astonishing array of poems, prose & letters by 20th century writers from the USA, South America & elsewhere, representing the foremost members of the Beat Generation, San Francisco Renaissance, Black Mountain School, Surrealism & more: Carol Berge; Black-Mountain-&-Beyond icon Paul Blackburn; a special section devoted to Uruguayan poets including Carlos Brandy; Surrealist founder Andre Breton; Theodore Enslin; Deep Image Master Robert Kelly; another special section devoted to Ecuadorian poets including David Ledesma; legendary mystic-poet Thomas Merton; classic Peruvian poet Octavio Paz; Beat Generation- San Francisco Renaissance Founding Father Gary Snyder; Diane Wakoski & many more. On front cover, just above her printed name among the roster of writers (between Merton & Breton); Wakoski, the acclaimed & prolific Beat-influenced American poet then-associated with the Deep Image School, has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles in bold black ink, which has moderately bled. With notes on contributors, many reproductions of artworks including a fold-out between pages 120-121, contemporary ads, etc. Complete with original subscription card still attached between pages 160-161. Softcover in sewn binding. A dazzlingly varied & rare compilation; among the very earliest, scarcest Wakoski collectibles. In relatively fine condition with only moderate rubbing, browning, scratching & creasing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps, small creases at edges & corners of same; mostly closed, short tears at upper, lower spine-edges & corners; one short, closed tear-crease at upper left edge of back cover; moderate browning, rubbing & spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only mild browning esp. to blank margins of page leaves; tiny bumps, small curls at corners of some of same. Fine. [Item #3486]
