San Francisco Public Library presents: A Memorial Tribute to Ken Kesey Program

San Francisco, CA: San Francisco Public Library, 2001. First Printing. Single Sheet. Signed by Gerald Nicosia. On December 5, 2001, a memorial event for Ken Kesey, who had died on November 10, was held at the San Francisco Public Library's Koret Auditorium, hosted by Gerald Nicosia, the acclaimed critical biographer of Jack Kerouac; & Neeli Cherkovski, among the key figures of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance. The event attracted 1000 people, twice as many as could be accommodated, & so 500 were turned away. Offered here is the program for this memorial tribute to Kesey, the "Visionary Artist and Literary Radical" whose novels including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest greatly impacted American literature & culture, & whose adventures on the "Further" bus with Neal Cassady bridged the Beat Generation & the countercultural explosion of the 1960s. The roster of participants besides Nicosia & Cherkovski included Country Joe McDonald, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Carolyn Adams a/k/a Mountain Girl & many other legendary figures. The event was dedicated to Kesey's widow Faye & his four children. We obtained this original program from our good friend & colleague Nicosia, who has hand-written his signature just below his & Cherkovski's printed name. With reproduction of a photograph of Kesey taken by Nicosia. Single 8&1/2' x 11" sheet on thick, tumble-textured light purple paper stock, printed on recto only. A very rare & desirable piece of Kesey ephemera. In very fine condition with only tiny bump-crease at upper right corner of recto. Very Fine. [Item #3490]
