[Item #3517] Poster: "I Am the Door" Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Poster: "I Am the Door"

San Francisco, CA: American Newsrepeat Co., n/d (Circa 1967). First Edition. Single Sheet. A large poster (22" x 28&1/4") with magnified reproduction of a classic photograph of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the great Founding Father of the Beat Generation as both poet & publisher, who is still with us at 101 years old as of this writing! The location of this portrait is obviously City Lights Books, the iconic venue in San Francisco which Ferlinghetti founded & has been the proprietor of since 1953, & whose Pocket Poets Series imprint published such foundational Beat volumes as Allen Ginsberg's Howl & Kaddish; his own Pictures of the Gone World & A Coney Island of the Mind; & many other seminal texts. There is no information other than the publisher & location in small print near lower right edge, but we surmise the date as right about 1967- the same image, with the words on the panel next to Ferlinghetti altered from "I Am the Door" as here to "An Eye on the World," is reproduced on the front cover of the compilation of the latter name published in the UK that year. A bold, riveting production depicting Ferlinghetti in his prime, in the milieu that he created. In exceptionally very fine condition with no discernible flaws except a tiny bump at lower left corner; very small area of waving at lower right edge & corner. Currently mounted on stiff board in protected shrinkwrap, will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube. Extra postage may be required. Very Fine. [Item #3517]
