Temple & Dallas, TX: Ink Brush Press, 2011. First Edition. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by W.K. Stratton to Charles Plymell. "W.K. Stratton's masterful and original poetry spans our history. As he moves through history with beautiful elegies, half dreamt, of family and friends, heartbreak, and hard traveling, he can flip the picture to poetry and poetry to picture to create the motion and motivation to witness disintegration in our larger worlds." (Charles Plymell, quoted on back cover) A volume of poems by W.K. Stratton, the acclaimed & prolific American writer best known for his non-fiction works such as Chasing the Rodeo, Boxing Shadows & most recently The Wild Bunch: Sam Peckinpah, a Revolution in Hollywood, and the Making of a Legendary Film. Stratton, as he explains in his introduction to this collection, was inspired by the life & work of the iconic film director as he wrote these poems, which channel the "real man" Peckinpah spirit through experiences, moods & such figures as Merle Haggard, Dennis Hopper & Don Meredith. Charles Plymell, the poet-printer-publisher & quintessential Literary Outlaw, is among the dedicatees acknowledged by Stratton & provided a laudatory blurb (quoted above). On shorter title page, Stratton has hand-written: "For Charley Plymell, a kindred spirit,/ an inspiration, a terrific poet,/ an outlaw, and an inspiration,/ (signed) Kip/ (signed) W.K. Stratton/ Austin/ Sept '11." Apparently Stratton is doubly inspired by "outlaw" Plymell in this warm, reverent inscription from the year of publication! Trade-format softcover original. An amazing Stratton rarity with very special association & provenance, obtained by us from the library of our good friend & mentor Charles Plymell himself. In very fine condition with only very light wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3524]
