Ostheim/Rhon, Germany: Verlag Peter Engstler, 2011. First German Edition. Softcover. A portfolio of collage artworks by Claude Pelieu (1934-2002), the French writer-artiste who, along with his wife Mary Beach, were in the forefront of the avant-garde. They collaborated with & were close to William S. Burroughs among many other key Beat-&-Beyond figures, & applied WSB's cut-up method to art & writing with their own twist. Mary Beach's daughter, Pamela Beach Plymell, is the wife & collaborator of Legendary Literary Outlaw Charles Plymell, so Mary & Claude were literally & figuratively part of one big happy family of cutting-edge counterculture. The collages are well-reproduced in color & take up all but the last colophon-copyright page leaf, with printing on one side only so that each opposite page is blank. There is no introduction or afterword, only bold, beautiful, provocative artworks. This is the first German edition published in 2011; there is a reference on copyright page to a preceding French edition from 1999 under a different title. Large-format softcover original. A very rare & desirable Pelieu collectible, in very fine condition with only a bit of rubbing & sparse, faint creasing to front, back covers & spine; very mild wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3526]
