Portland, ME: The Cafe Review, Inc., 2011. First Printing; Original Hand-Made Card. Softcover; Single Folded Sheet. Original hand-made Christmas greeting card inscribed & signed by Robert & Michele Branaman to Charles & Pamela Plymell. This number of the literary & art journal founded & chiefly edited by Steve Luttrell features front cover & interior reproductions of artworks by Robert Branaman, the acclaimed 1960s counterculture-&-beyond artist & poet who is a member of the "Wichita Vortex" that includes such Kansas-born legends as Charles Plymell & Michael McClure (who just passed away as of this writing). With a poem by Branaman ("I Painted Over One thousand Paintings," pg. 7); & contributions of poetry by such prominent Beat Generation & Literary Outlaw figures as Diane di Prima, Robert Kelly, Gerard Malanga, Joanna McClure (former wife of the deceased Michael), Plymell, Margaret Randall, Edward Sanders (usually more informally known as Ed), Anne Waldman & many others. With other illustrators, reviews, notes on contributors. This copy was obtained by us from the library of our friend & mentor Charles Plymell, & contains a loose piece of outstanding ephemera: A greeting card, circa Christmas 2011, from Branaman & his wife Michele to Charles Plymell & his wife-collaborator Pamela Beach Plymell. Folded lengthwise on thick card stock, this delightful handmade production features a garishly colored portrait of "Bob" & Michele on front panel; interior with stamped or letterpress messages & collaged images (one of them quite erotic), along with this message in (Presumably) Robert's handwriting: "Love Bob & Michele/ For Charley & Pam/ may you always/ have me best." On rear panel are several collaged images, again one of them very erotic. A rare & significant literary & artistic collectible; with a very special one-of-a-kind artwork-greeting card from one distinguished contributor to another. Journal in very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & occasional spotting to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of some page leaves. Greeting card in very fine condition, handmade on rough-edged (probably handmade) paper stock. Very Fine. [Item #3534]
