Cullowhee, NC: New Native Press, 1995. First Edition. Softcover. Signed by author John Lane & Publisher Thomas Rain Crowe. "Antibiotics are burning a hole in my sleep. I am sweeping/ the cave of illness. I dream the dog has used the other/ room to escape my training, and a snake slips into a/ rain puddle shadowed by a single creosote bush." (from "Health Care Plan," pg. 24) A collection of poems by South Carolina native John Lane, the noted & prolific poet, environmentalist & academician. The format & content of Lane's prose-poems are quite uniquely conversational & evocative, the product of a one-man school of poetry. With an introduction to the title poem by journalist Larry McGehee. Softcover original, first edition, first printing as noted on copyright page. A production of New Native Press, the imprint of North Carolinian Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Both poet & publisher are kindred literary Carolinians. On title page, both Lane & Crowe have hand-written their signatures, in black & blue ink respectively. A very desirable Lane collectible with significant association & provenance.
