Digging Dinosaur Dignity in Ardortown with: Too Late for Valentine's Day

Long Island, NY: Myshkin Press, 2008; 2012. First Editions. Stapled Wrappers; Sewn Wrappers. First chapbook inscribed & signed by Lynne Savitt to Charles & Pamela Plymell; second chapbook inscribed & signed to Charles Plymell. Two chapbooks of poetry by Lynne Savitt, the lascivious, exuberant, ultimately sweet & sentimental poet who in her earlier life was a student & protege of Diane Wakoski. Savitt's poems have been published in the New York Quarterly & other prestigious journals, as well as in many of her own volumes. She speaks in her poems & prose-poems as a grieving daughter, a loving mother & grandmother, a devoted friend & lustful lover. (1) Digging Dinosaur Dignity in Ardortown (2008), with the title poem & 21 others. Chapbook in stapled wrappers with front cover illustration by Noelle Crough; vintage family photos including the poet's parents who passed away a few years before this was published; three-layered cut-out illustration of dinosaur on back cover. On the dedication page, Savitt has hand-written & signed: "For Charlie & Pam-/ with love/ &/ respect/ (signed) Lynne." "Charlie & Pam" are Charles Plymell, the great American poet, printer, publisher & Legendary Literary Outlaw; & his wife-collaborator Pamela Beach Plymell. Savitt is part of the creative family of poets, artists & musicians gathered around the venerable Plymells. (2) Too Late For Valentine's Day (2012), with 24 poems. Chapbook in sewn wrappers with front cover featuring cut-out heart exposing the poet's name on front endpaper; very humorous & explicit Valentine's Day-themed frontispiece illustration; laudatory blurbs by A.D. Winans & Hugh Fox on back cover. On front endpaper- title page, Savitt has hand-written & signed: "For Charlie-/ with gratitude/ for the words you bleed-/ Love/ (signed) Lynne Savitt." "Charlie" is again Charles Plymell. Two delightful & desirable (indeed) Savitt rarities with wonderful association & provenance. (1) in very fine condition with a bit of rubbing & a few short, faint creases to front, back covers & stapled spine; very light wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps, small creases at corners of a few page leaves. (2) in very fine condition with mild rubbing & a few short, faint creases to front, back covers & sewn spine; tiny bumps at some corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bump at lower corner of one page leaf (pgs. 7-8). Very Fine. [Item #3538]
