Los Angeles, CA: Aaron Blake Publishers, 1987. First Edition. Single Sheet. "Chronicling the Beat scene from its beginnings at Columbia University in 1945, THE BEAT GENERATION MAP OF AMERICA lists the personalities, books, seminal events and locales defining the era, which peaked in San Francisco during the late 50's." (from introduction) A large, wide poster (20" x 27") with Stan Grant's depictions of the primary literary & musical members & associates of the Beat Generation as if together at a hipster venue watching Jack Kerouac reciting his works with wide-open arms per the iconic well-known photograph. Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs (whom we think looks more like Peter Sellers circa Dr. Strangelove in Grant's depiction), Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Kenneth Rexroth, Neal Cassady, Ted Joans, Gregory Corso, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk et al. surround maps of areas in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley, NYC etc. with numbers indicating key locales that are explained in upper right background. This bold production is quite a novelty & a not-bad very brief & broad introduction to the Beat Generation. We have seen reference to a pocket or folder that contained the original production in folded form for sale, it is not present here. First edition, presumed first printing as there is no reference to further printings. A very interesting piece of Beat Generation ephemera. In very fine condition with many light vertical & horizontal creases where originally folded, otherwise no apparent wear or flaws.
Currently mounted on stiff board, in protective shrinkwrap, will be carefully re-folded to its 7" x 4" dimension for shipping. Very Fine. [Item #3546]
