Ostheim/Rhon, Germany: Medien Streu c/o Verlag Peter Engstler, 2005, 2008, 2009. First Editions. All three volumes inscribed & signed by Egon Gunther to Charles Plymell. A catalog of artworks & two volumes of poetry by Egon Gunther, a German artist & writer born in 1953, therefore not the acclaimed filmmaker of the same name (1927-2017) although they may be related: (1) Bienenstock (beehive), catalog of artworks all entitled Bienenstock 1-29 & all dated 2005, beautifully reproduced in color, preceded & followed with quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke & Andre Breton in German text. On title page (where the Rilke quote is located), Gunther has hand-written & signed in bold dark-pink ink: "For Charles/ Through the/ compound eyes of bees.../ (signed) Egon Gunther." "Charles" is Charles Plymell, the great American poet, printer, publisher & Legendary Literary Outlaw; our good friend & mentor from whose library we obtained this & the next two volumes. (2) Souvenirs & Leftovers (2008), a collection of poems with all text in German except for the title, & color reproduction of a Gunther artwork on front cover. On blank front endpaper, Gunther has hand-written & signed in black ink: "14.9.2008 (September 14, 2008)/ for/ Charles Plymell/ after a ride/ over the/ mountains/ (signed) Egon." (3) Hegt Traum Kerne (2009), a collection of poems & a few pages of prose with all text in German. Following the poems is an index-glossary that includes short references to Plymell & his kindred Literary Outlaws Neal Cassady & Ray Bremser. With color reproduction of a Gunther artwork on front cover. On short title page, Gunther has hand-written & signed in bold dark-pink ink: "For Charles/ hail(?) a taxi through/ the universe tonight/ sweet dreams/ (signed) Egon Gunther." Trade-format softcover originals, crisp German productions. A very interesting & desirable (especially for our German-literate collectors) Gunther bundle of art & poetry with wonderful association & provenance. All in very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front, back covers & spines; very light wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interiors all very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves in each volume. Very Fine. [Item #3556]
