Palmate of the Latest Sea: for the Many and the Eventual.

Palmate of the Latest Sea: for the Many and the Eventual.

Asheville, NC: ReFresh Press, 2004. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. "Palmate is not an illustration of understanding. It is a wail of unknowing, with reaches toward sense made through questions, questions that are expressions of unknowing...Palmate is another word for seagull feet...Only after discovering another meaning in a dictionary, "having sections radiating from a common center," did the somewhat flat term sit nicely as the title." (from introduction, "Some First Surf.") A chapbook of poems by Jaye Bartell, the noted musician & poet of Asheville, North Carolina. A tall (11" x 4&1/4"), beautifully hand-crafted chapbook production in sewn binding. Colophon whimsically states: "PALMATE is the first publication of the thistle BULB series, an area of the recently dim (but bulbous) ReFresh Press project. More information available from some guy, just like the old days." From the library of acclaimed poet & publisher Thomas Rain Crowe, a fellow North Carolinian who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Crowe, our good friend & mentor, provided us with the date, not noted in the chapbook; & we surmised the place as Asheville since that appears to be Bartell's base location. A charming, enigmatic collectible literary rarity. In very fine condition, first page leaf of naturally creased, thin handmade paper with edges (esp. side edge) slightly protruding beyond covers & attendant tiny bumps, creases; otherwise substantially as new inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #3559]
