A bold, beautiful production; one of a limited edition of 200 copies, this is copy No. 124/200 as hand-numbered on colophon. From the library of Thomas Rain Crowe, the venerable poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). On shorter title page, Greenslade has hand-written, illustrated & signed: "for Thomas Rain Crowe/ with warm & affectionate/ regards/ (signed) David Greenslade/ medi(year?):/ 1996." to the left of this inscription, Greenslade has drawn an illustration of what resembles a Native American teepee structure. Crowe's background & interests include Native American, Welsh, Scottish & Celtic languages & cultures. Also loosely included are three sets of translations into English of some of the poems, "The Ladders of Orpheus" (two stapled sheets), "Cradle of the Moon" (two stapled sheets) & "Things/ Objects return Echoing/ Resounding from their exile" (two stapled sheets). Behind the latter are two loose sheets with the title "Objects Return in Triumph from their Exile," possibly an alternate version of the same poem. Greenslade writes in Welsh & English, & must have provided these translations to Crowe to help him study the poems. A fantastic Greenslade collectible with rich association & provenance. Book in very fine condition with only some short, faint creases to front, back covers & spine of over-wrap; several small ink stains at blank area of front over-wrap cover. Interior very fine, substantially mint. A large amount of thread extends from sewn binding which we believe was intended as a bookmark of sorts. English translation sheets (printed or copied on one side only) in near-fine condition with moderate creasing to surfaces & esp. edges & corners; staples in process of rusting with minimal bleeding. Very Fine. [Item #3608]
