Los Angeles, CA: Black Sparrow Press, 1971. Limited First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Tom Clark, & with signed ephemera. 'Nothing inside/ a space/ the surface of which/ is filled/ with tiny messages" ("TV," pg. 15) A collection with the title poem & many other short works along with the final, longer "A Sailor's Life," by Tom Clark (1941-2018). Clark, the prodigious & prolific poet, editor & biographer, has left us a brilliant & topical legacy which deserves a revived recognition- he is exemplary of our category "The Prolific & Underappreciated." A beautiful production by the famed Black Sparrow Press, one of 200 hand-numbered copies very boldly signed by Clark in appropriately green felt-tip ink. This is copy No. 165/200. Also present here is a loose promotional card for this work, with the poem "Curve" printed in its short entirety. Just below & beside the poem, Clark has hand-written his signature in red ink. A key early collectible in the Clark canon, in a very rare & desirable version. In exceptionally very fine condition with only a tiny amount of wear at upper & lower edges, corners of front, back covers & spine; publisher's clear protective jacket with only very slight rubbing. Interior substantially pristine. Ephemera in very fine condition, with a small underlined number "2" hand-written in light pencil near upper left corner of blank verso (possibly by publisher or Clark); otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #3635]
