n/p: Steve Brooks, 2013. First Edition. Spiral Bound. Inscribed & signed by Steve Brooks to Thomas Rain Crowe. "In the shower,/ the window wet,/ a thread/ from the curtain,/ A filament/ fixed in space,/ I am somehow/ restored." ("A Filament," pg. 2) A self-published collection of poems by Steve Brooks, a prolific poet, prose writer & artist who signs his paintings with the name Abhaya, the Indian word for fearless. On blank inner front cover, Brooks has hand-written, signed & dated(on Halloween!): "For Thomas/ in the/ breeze/ from/ (signed) Steve/ 10/31/13." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Brooks then resided in San Francisco & first met Crowe there, & they are long-time colleagues & friends to this day, both now residing in North Carolina. Brooks is mentioned by Crowe in SFSF, he was not a certified Baby Beat but part of the broader community of young poets at that time & place. Large-format spiral-bound sheets with illustrated (presumably by Brooks) front cover; pagination & printing on verso of sheets only. A unique Brooks collectible of unknown but certainly very small limitation, with outstanding poet-to-poet association & provenance. In very fine condition with only very slight wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of covers & some sheets; one sheet (pg. 22) loose in spiral binding, a clear production flaw as the bound edge was cut slightly short & is entirely smooth. Very Fine. [Item #3648]
