Limits of the Eyes and Other Poems
N/P: C.W. Swets, 1998. First Printing. Softcover in Stiff Wraps. Here we have the debut work by the celebrated modern Printer-Publisher C.W. Swets, a work of ambitious Concrete Poetry titled "Limits of the Eyes and Other Poems." Swets has won awards for his hand-printed & Letterpress works, and continues to impress aficionados of this lost art form with his ingenuity and historically-informed respect for the craft. Exemplary of that historically-informed outlook is the fact that Swets personally sent and signed this copy to Ken & Ann Mikolowski of the legendary Alternative Press, first located in Detroit--where Ken & Ann received their first press from John Sinclair and hung around the famed Detroit Artists' Workshop--and then to Grindstone City before settling in Ann Arbor. Ken & Ann were giants of the field, and their numerous innovations--such as the hand-made, personalized poem-postcards, each truly one-of-a-kind and done by a multitude of major mid-century American literary figures--is among their trademark achievements. Swets has grown in esteem in recent years, making this copy of challenging Concrete Poetry from then-aspiring Printer-Publisher to already-legendary Printer-Publishers truly something special. Signature in black pen ink reads: "Dear Ken & Ann / Here's my first & made it myself. / Hope very much that you're thriving! / Love, / CW." Book in very fine condition with only slight spot on front cover at center-right near rightmost fine-edge; one scratch & one nick at center of same. Very Fine. [Item #3685]
