Pembrokeshire, UK: Blackheath Books, 2009. Limited First Edition. Stapled Wrappers; Single Card. Signed by Adelle Stripe; & with her hand-written, signed postcard to Charles Plymell. A chapbook of poems by Adelle Stripe, a promising younger British writer whose award-winning 2017 novel, Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile, was adopted for the stage in Britain. As noted on copyright page/ colophon, this is one of an edition of 100 signed & numbered copies published during October 2009, boldly signed by Stripe at (& partly overlapping) limitation. This is number-stamped copy No. 35/100. Two ISBN numbers are referred to without distinguishing editions, we have provided both. Publisher's embossed seal- limited edition certification pressed into blank area of contents page (pg. 5). A very interesting production with two actual holes burned through front wrapper (presumably made with lit cigarettes), showing through to patterned endpaper. Among the laudatory quotes following the poems on page 24 is one from Charles Plymell, the great American poet, printer, publisher & Legendary Literary Outlaw: "(Stripe's) vision easily rises to transform the 'nicotine clouds' and 'sixty watt bulbs' of the brutal commerce of reality onto the 'hot raindrops' of her lips to kiss a better decade. In her poems she brings delicious beauty to lick the quiet smoke." Loosely included between rear endpaper & inner back cover is a postcard with a photograph taken at Angels of Nunhead Cemetery on recto, & a hand-written & signed note from Stripe to Plymell on verso: "Dear Charles,/ Just wanted to say/ a big thank you for the/ quote- it's much appreciated./ This was a gravestone I used to pass every day/ on my way to work- Nunhead Cemetery is/ an amazing place...one of the/ famed Necropolis Graveyards in/ London. A little neglected but a/ good place to write my new/ collection./ Lots of Love/ (signed) Adelle./ X." The postcard is not postmarked & therefore was included with the chapbook mailed to Plymell, from whom we obtained this. A terrific collectible with very significant poet-to-poet, protege-to-mentor association between the Beat & Beat-grandprogeny generations. Chapbook in very fine condition with only a touch of wear at edges & corners of front, back cover & stapled spine. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves. Cigarette-burn holes noted above were of course quite intentional. Postcard very fine, virtually mint. Very Fine. [Item #3713]
