San Antonio, TX: Wings Press, 2013. First Edition. Softcover. Signed by Keith Flynn; & with book review clipping inscribed & signed by Flynn, signed by reviewer Thomas Rain Crowe. 'The poems in this book are built in a circular fashion like a Mayan calendar; its architecture and interconnected narrative have a hive mind, with each poem connected to the poem in front and behind it by a theme, an image, or a single word. Colony Collapse Disorder is a place-based abecedarium in which each letter of the alphabet is represented by two places, cities, countries, or regions whose name corresponds to the letter and its assigned poem." (from Preface, pg. XII) A collection of inter-connected & themed poems by Keith Flynn, the acclaimed, prize-winning poet & former lyricist- lead singer for the rock band The Crystal Zoo. The inspiration for this work was the disturbing, potentially catastrophic & portentous phenomenon of (bee) colony collapse disorder. Large-format softcover original, first edition as stated on copyright page. On the title page, Flynn has hand-written his signature just above his printed name, which he has crossed out. Also included here loosely between inner front cover & endpaper is a leaf (pgs. 27-28) from an issue of Smoky Mountain News circa March-April 2013, with a review of this volume by Thomas Rain Crowe, the noted poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). In this enthusiastic & insightful review, Crowe writes: "In the end, what Keith Flynn has created, here, is quite amazing in terms of global scale and geopolitical perspective." Above the title of the review, "To bee or not to be," Flynn has hand-written & signed: "Many thanks,/ (signed) Keith Flynn/ 4-5-13." At right upper margin of page, Crowe has hand-written his signature. The page is folded neatly into four sections, & in very fine condition with only left edge esp. at upper section moderately irregular from tearing. A prime Flynn collectible with outstanding poet-to-poet association & provenance. Book in very fine condition with only a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of bright, glossy front, back covers & spine; one tiny spot at lower edge of text block; small area of rubbing at right edge, corner & lower side edge of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at lower corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #3717]
