Edinburgh, Scotland: The Ramsay Head Press, 1994. First Edition. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by Tessa Ransford to Thomas Rain Crowe. "Delicate as the thread given us for the dark/ to slay, not our invisible/ circulating holiness/ but the monstrous will to power/ that blocks our healing flow." ("Medusa One," first stanza, pg. 5) A collection of poems by Tessa Ransford (1938-2015), the great Scottish poet who was the founding director of the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh. Divided into four sections beginning with the title's "Medusa Dozen," thirteen poems that invoke the fearsome Greek Goddess. Trade-format softcover original in sewn binding, in wraps with flaps. On the title page, above & next to her printed name at upper margin, Ransford has hand-written, signed & dated during the year after publication: "With recognition of much mutual understanding/ best wishes/ (signed) Tessa Ransford/ July 1995/ Edinburgh." Though he is not addressed by name, the recipient of this inscription is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed American poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075), & from whose library we have acquired this. Among his many areas of expertise is Welsh & Scottish poetry & culture. An outstanding Ransford collectible with very significant poet-to-poet association & provenance. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same & flaps; light spotting to upper edge of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #3777]
