Innti 15 (1996)

County Cork, Ireland: Innti, 1996. First Printing. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by Michael Davitt to Thomas Rain Crowe. The fifteenth number of the Gaelic-language poetry journal founded, edited & with contributions by Michael Davitt (1950-2005), considered to be among the finest & most influential modern Irish poets. With contributions by many Irish poets including Davitt & Gabriel Rosenstock. With many artful photographs throughout. All text in the Gaelic- Original Irish language. Large-format softcover original. On the title-copyright page, Davitt has hand-written, signed & dated: " 'As she takes my voice/ and leaves me howling/ at the moon.'/ For Thomas/ with admiration/ (signed) Michael Davitt/ (?) January '01." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed North Carolinian poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Among Crowe's many interests & areas of study are Irish & Scottish literary history, culture & language. The quoted passage we presume to be Davitt's translation from Gaelic into English of a fragment of one of his poems. A beautiful production, & an extreme rarity with this very significant poet-to-poet association & provenance. In fine condition with mild rubbing, scratching & short, faint creasing to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; mild spotting to edges of text block. Interior fine with moderate spotting to mostly blank side-marginal areas of some page leaves (most pronounced on inscription page but with very little effect); tiny bumps at mostly upper corners of page leaves. Fine. [Item #3813]
