Broadside: "In The End"
Pasco, WA: Goldermood Rainbow Press, 1986. First Printing. Single Sheet Framed. Signed by Robert Peters to James Perrizo. "In the end/ a man loves himself/ alone." (first stanza) A broadside (appx. 10&3/4" x 16&1/4" incl. frame) with the world-wisely fatalistic title poem by Robert Peters (1924-2014), the acclaimed & prolific poet, critic, Victorian scholar & educator. With a large illustration of a smiling Peters grasping the suspenders of his overalls like the earthbound hardscrabble farmer he originally was, the essence of which he never lost. The drawing is signed by "Gilmore" with no first name or initial. No date or limitation information is present, there is the logo & address of publisher, & the words "NITTY-GRITTY" at lower right edge/corner (perhaps the title of publisher's series?). Just above the title at blank area near upper right corner, Peters has hand-written, signed & dated: "For Jim-/ (signed) Robert Peters/ (drawing of flower)/ 20 May 1986." "Jim" is James Perrizo (1944-2006), a devoted Beat-&-Beyond collector & scholar who very extensively collected the works of & corresponded with Peters. We surmise that this broadside was produced during the year written by the poet. Handsomely framed with glass in black metal without any surrounding matte. We offer this only thus, any attempt to remove the broadside might result in damage. A bold & beautiful production; & an extremely rare & desirable Peters collectible with significant association & provenance. Broadside appears to be in very fine condition with only a few short, faint creases & very mild vertical waving (from probably having been affixed to backing). Frame fine with some mild scratching mostly at outermost edges & corners; a bit of rubbing to glass; backing includes sturdy mounting wire; stamp of Detroit framer near lower right corner of otherwise blank white surface. This item will require extra postage to be safely shipped. Very Fine / (Frame) Fine. [Item #3822]
