Gifts From The Island

Cambridge, MA: Richard Cambridge/ Jumblies Press, 1992. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Richard Cambridge. "May my heart be fertile,/ my mind a faithful steward/ and my will a good tiller of soil." ("Prayer To The Muse") A collection of poems by Richard Cambridge, a prolific poet-performer well known at "Slam" gatherings in the Boston area, where he lives (appropriately) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As the poet notes in a statement preceding them, "These poems were written in a house on a cliff overlooking Brandt Point on Nantucket Island, May 26 to June 7, 1992." A self-published chapbook production with reproduction of pastel artwork depicting a tranquil island landscape by Cambridge encompassing covers & spine. Don't be lulled by the serenity of the artwork or the gentle haiku-like poem quoted above, many of these works are exemplary of the intensely political, fist-shaking & even violent poem-tirades that Cambridge bellows at his Slams. On the title page, Cambridge has hand-written his signature, & below it the date "5/93," the year after publication per copyright page. A rare & important Cambridge collectible, in very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & a few short, faint creases to front, back covers & stapled spine; very slight wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; barely visible spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps, creases to mostly upper corners of some page leaves. Book. [Item #3896]
