(pg. 3) Thus begins this essay-memoir by Charles Plymell, the great American poet, printer & Legendary Literary Outlaw (from the beginning as we see in the first paragraph quoted above). Plymell's most adventurous, talented & opinionated life is described in this capsule autobiographical work, as well as his impressions of & experiences with such luminous friends & colleagues as William S. Burroughs, Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg & many more. With contemporary image of the Worn but Lighted Plymell surrounded by his books & mementos by Phil Scalia on front cover, & vintage photographs throughout. "a co-production of glass eye books, florence/ ecstatic peace, northampton/ cherry valley editions, cherry valley" as noted on front cover, referring to two publishers in Massachusetts & his own venerable alternative imprint. Stapled sheets, Printed during May 2011 & designed by Pamela Beach Plymell, Charles' devoted & long-suffering wife-co-publisher-collaborator (copyright page). Per colophon, this is one of an edition of 226 copies, of which 26 were lettered & signed by Plymell. This is among the 200 unlettered, unsigned copies. An excellent introduction to the life & work of Charles Plymell by the man himself in his exemplary style; & a rare Plymell collectible. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing, scratching, scarce spotting & a few light, faint creases to front, back cover sheets (no spine); a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; miniscule bumps at corners of a few interior page leaves.
