Bodedern, Wales: Gwasg Taf, 1997. First Edition. Softcover. Inscribed & signed by Iwan Llwyd to Thomas Rain Crowe. A volume of poems by Iwan Llwyd (1957-2010, Iwan Lloyd Williams in English), the greatly respected Welsh poet. All text in the Welsh language. With front cover collage & riveting woodcut illustrations throughout by Anthony Evans. The poems & illustrations are all inspired by Llwyd's travels through the USA & Canada, his impressions of these nations' landscapes, peoples & cultures. The translation of the title in English is "Under an Influence." Trade-format softcover, presumed first edition. On the title page, Llwyd has hand-written & signed, mostly in English: "I Thomas a Nan-/ from the only surviving Ginsberg!/ Thanks for all your help./ (signed) Iwan." "Thomas (&) Nan" are Thomas Rain Crowe & his partner. Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher, was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting from San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Llwyd's reference to Allen Ginsberg is significant- while we cannot read the text, it is obvious from the illustrations that they are in the restless, itinerant, searching spirit of the Beat Generation (more like Kerouac On the Road though in a poetic form probably closer to Ginsberg). A scarce Llwyd collectible with very rich association & provenance between two Beat-protege poets. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to glossy front, back covers & spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; mild spotting to upper edge of text block; much less to side & lower edges of same. Interior very fine with only miniscule bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3904]
