The Shuffle of Wings

Spartanburg, SC: Holocene Press, 1990. Limited First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Inscribed & signed by Deno Trakas to Thomas Rain Crowe. "It's not the same, being married./ The silence of lovers is teeming/ with possibility, questions suspended/ like hooks above water, afraid to drop/ where something quick may strike." ("Transition," first stanza) An early collection of poems by Deno Trakas, an acclaimed & gifted poet, novelist, memoirist & academician of Greek-American heritage who resides in South Carolina. With reproductions of several exquisite line-drawing illustrations by Irene Trakas (presumably Deno's wife) on title page & throughout. An elegantly simple, stately chapbook production in blank blue wrappers with sewn binding. Per colophon, one of 300 (un-numbered) copies produced during January 1990. On the title page, Trakas has hand-written & signed: "for Thomas,/ my fine poet-friend,/ best always,/ (signed) Deno." "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the noted poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Crowe was born, raised & has long-returned to the neighboring state of North Carolina. A very rare, desirable & rewarding Trakas collectible with important poet-to-poet association & provenance. In very fine condition with only moderate fading to front, back covers (esp. sides nearest spine) & sewn spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at mostly upper corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3955]
