As explained in their preface, the term Gahneesah is the anglicized Cherokee term for Kennesaw Mountain in Georgia, site of an historic battle during the American Civil War; Marcescence is "...a botanical term describing the retention of dead plant organs that normally are shed, as with the leaves of deciduous trees." A chapbook production in stapled wrappers, first edition as stated on copyright page. On shorter title page, Martin has dated at time of publication, hand-written & signed: "Nov. 5, 2014/ Kennesaw, GA/ To Thomas-/ Thank you for supporting/ this book from the start-/ From vouching for us/ with Voices from the/ American Land (title underlined), to the/ book's present form/ with your blurb. "Thomas" is Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). As mentioned in Martin's inscription, Crowe was among the blurb writers for this volume, as quoted above. Martin has also hand-written his signature over & next to his printed name on title page. A scarce & outstanding Martin-King collectible with very rich poets-to-poet provenance & association. In very fine condition with only slight rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear & a few small-to-tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same.
