Merrill Cove
Minneapolis, MN: 1998. Stapled Wrappers. "Merrill Cove was written in the late 1950s, while the Metcalfs resided in North Carolina, and has remained unpublished until now. "We lived there for four years, and it was a significant period of our lives: the way of life, the writing, the kids growing, the warm associations with Charles Olson, Jonathan Williams, Black Mountain College. The Cove is what I think of when I think of North Carolina." " (from page following poem) The title poem in sixteen parts by Paul Metcalf (1917-1999), the acclaimed poet & prose writer with a most distinguished American literary pedigree: He was the great-grandson of Herman Melville.
