6x6 No. 16 (Fall 2008)
ISBN: (ISSN)15539459
Brooklyn, NY: Ugly Duckling Presse, 2008. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers in Loose Over-Wraps. "He'd taken so much heroin it must have knit his bones./ He'd skip school to bike the city up and down,/ a scream and a careen, a grimace and a glide./ Then ice his poor knees with a bag of frozen peas." (Gretchen Primack, "Sylvia 1A," first stanza) This sixteenth number of the poetry journal, titled "Deflates Withoutward," features the work of six (of course) up-&-coming (as of 2008) poets: Heather Christie, Amanda Deutch, Ossian Foley, John High, Anthony Madrid & Gretchen Primack (quoted above). Per copyright page & colophon, this copy is from an edition of 1000, with no editorship noted. A chic chapbook production in stapled wrappers with loose over-wrap held by a rubber band across front through middle; actual dimensions are 7" x 7" with upper right corner clipped through entirety as issued. On a website we found this archived statement from the publisher of the apparently now-defunct 6x6: "Every issue of 6x6 contains six poets who are each given six pages to present their work; we encourage projects that specifically explore the format. 6x6 publishes poets of all ages from all over the U.S. and abroad, and we aim to include a poet in translation in every issue." No translator for any of the poets is noted, our educated guess here is Ms. Deutch. A very interesting contemporary literary relic, in very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of front, back covers & spine of over-wrap; (single) staple beginning to rust with no discernible bleeding (only interior visible); otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #3999]
