n/p; San Francisco, CA: Karl Gallagher; n/p; San Francisco Chronicle, n/d; 2011. First Printings. Photographs; Artworks; Envelopes; Card Stock; Newspaper Leaf. Envelopes with writing by Karl Gallagher to Charles Plymell & contents signed by Gallagher; Broadside signed by Richard Krech to Plymell. A bundle of collectible ephemera all relating to Charles Plymell, the great American Literary Outlaw, & a few of his many literary-artistic protégés & friends: (1) Two envelopes with writing in pencil on versos by Karl Gallagher (1943-2016), the noted Australian artist, to Plymell. On flap of verso of one envelope, Gallagher writes: "Charley, here's a special one./ Maybe Pam, or your daughter/ would like it. (signed) Karl." "Pam" would be Pamela Beach Plymell, Charles' wife, close collaborator & co-publisher. Inside this envelope is a card folded lengthwise, with a collage of a color image of a Gallagher artwork over colored paper on front panel/ cover. Inside the otherwise blank card, Gallagher has hand-written his signature ("K Gallagher") in pencil. Another envelope has Plymell's address hand-written in pencil by Gallagher on flap of verso, & contains color photos of three Gallagher artworks affixed to cards- one single sheet with Gallagher's pencil signature on verso, & two single sheets folded lengthwise with Gallagher's pencil signature on otherwise blank interior panels. Privately self-published, no dates, appx. 2008-2012. (2) Broadside-card (appx. 5&1/2" x 8&1/2") with the poem "Jam Session, or Run Up to the War in W Minor" by Richard Krech, the poet & activist who was an associate of the legendary d.a. levy during the 1960s. Below the poem & next to his printed name, Krech has hand-written & signed in bold black ink: "For Charles/ (signed) Richard." "Charles" is of course Plymell. No date or publisher reference, also appx. 2008-2012. (3) Four-page leaf (pgs. 13-16) from San Francisco Chronicle event schedule section, May 19-22, 2011, single sheet originally folded vertically to form two leaves, further folded vertically & horizontally. With notice of a Plymell reading in "Out Loud" section (pg. 16) noting Plymell's involvement in the publication of Zap Comix No. 1, his collaboration with William S. Burroughs etc. The notice is hand-bordered in black ink, likely by Plymell himself. Of note elsewhere on this leaf (pg. 13) is a notice of an exhibit of artworks relating to The Residents, the great anonymous music-&-art ensemble (long a favorite of this writer), with an image of the band in their tuxedos & eyeball masks in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. Three very interesting, wacky pieces of Plymell-&-Co. ephemera, all in very fine condition: (1) with only light wear to edges & corners of envelopes; (2) with only a few tiny bumps at edges & corners; (3) with folds as noted & mild wear, tiny bumps & creases at edges, corners & surfaces. Very Fine. [Item #4023]
