Flight of Herons

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 1996. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers in Attached Over-Wraps. Signed by Joe Napora. "From the head, we look out to the river but cannot see where we tied up the canoe. Without the trees, we'd have a clear view of the river- the twisting river, sinuous, sensuous mound, each in motion, and us standing but in motion while at rest. We are the river. This is the message the mound announces so that we are able to announce the same message to ourselves. We are the middle between the two extremes of earth and sky." (pg. 4) The title essay-memoir by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific poet, editor, publisher & activist. A "Special Edition" (title page) of Napora's BullHead imprint; the colophon states: "This little book/ being a small selection/ from: Monumental Fictions/ a tour of the Ohio Valley Indian Mounds/ has been produced/ for a joyous occasion:/ the marriage/ of/ Joe Napora/ and/ Alison Momeyer/ June 29, 1996." An exemplary BullHead chapbook production in stapled wrappers with attached illustrated over-wraps. On the title page, at mostly blank area near lower right corner (slightly overlapping with "KY" state abbreviation), Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. A very rare & rewarding Napora collectible. In fine condition with only mild rubbing & some short, faint creases to front, back covers & spine of over-wrap; mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps, creases at thin upper edges & corners of some page leaves. Fine. [Item #4040]
