Georgetown, KY: Finishing Line Press, 2007. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Thomas Rain Crowe. Suddenly a loud drum/ In the middle of space sang out/ Like the death of air and/ Everything, even the moon, was sad/ Not for the loss of drumming or the song a/ Cicada sings at night longing for love, but/ Every bit it loses long enough of itself to know God." ("Silence," pg. 1) A collection of poems by Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). The poems are all very interestingly structured, with the capital letter beginning each line forming a vertical spine spelling out its title (as in "SILENCE" in the poem quoted above). As noted in a quote of Dr. Joseph Jochmans which forms an introduction/ preamble to this volume, "rock books" are prehistoric relics on which early humans carved art-language symbols. A quality chapbook production in stapled wrappers, first edition as stated on copyright page. On the title page, Crowe has hand-written his signature in bold blue ink below his printed name. A most rare & rewarding Crowe collectible. In very fine condition with only the slightest rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; light, faint creasing to spine. Interior very fine with only miniscule bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4046]
