Beat Scene No. 21

Coventry, England: The Beat Scene Press, 1994. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This vintage late 1994 number of the magazine-format literary journal published & edited by Kevin Ring in the UK features a supplementary discography of recordings by William S. Burroughs which fills in some items missing from a previous issue; articles on Jane Bowles, Neal Cassady, Jack Kerouac (the latter two by Ring) & others; a 1975 interview with the elusive writer-WSB collaborator Sinclair Beiles conducted by Michael Butterworth during July 1975; many reviews including Herbert Huncke's recording of his works; & more. With many reproductions of vintage photographs, including a classic earlier image of Kerouac taken by Carolyn Cassady on front cover & a 1976 image of Richard Brautigan (front cover of his then-latest book, Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork) on back cover. A scarce issue of this indispensable series, full of important & insightful Beat content from cover to cover- the motto on this issue is "The Magazine With Beatitude," later numbers proclaim "This Is The Beat Generation"- indeed! In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear, a few tiny bumps & some short, faint creases at edges & corners of same esp. upper right corner (blank margin) of back cover; sparse spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only very small areas of spotting at blank edges & corners of some page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4047]
