Letter from San Francisco

Coventry, England: The Beat Scene Press, 2009. Limited First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. The twenty-third number in the Beat Scene Press Pocket Book Series published by Kevin Ring in the UK, this is an essay written to the editors of a British literary journal by then-twenty-year-old Philip Lamantia in 1947, almost a decade before he would be a founding poet of the Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance (as well as one of the foremost torchbearers of Surrealism). The essay describes his impressions of the literary scene in San Francisco at that time. With an informative introduction, uncredited but presumably written by Ring. One of a limited edition of 125 hand-numbered copies produced during September 2009, this is copy No. 95/125. An important collectible for the Lamantia devotee, & another rarity in this beautiful series by the publisher of the indispensable Beat Scene magazine (many issues of which, along with other special publications such as this, are available here). In very fine condition with only a bit of rubbing, light creasing & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & stapled spine. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4052]
