ISBN: 9780979320439
Eugene, OR: Mountains and Rivers Press, 2009. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Thomas Rain Crowe. "The poems in The Blue Rose of Venice create an engaging travel narrative, describing in precise detail the experiences of the poet and translator, Thomas Rain Crowe, and his (partner), Nan, as they arrive, explore, and finally depart Venice, Italy. Their surprises become the reader's surprises and their delights, the reader's delights. Together the poems in this volume offer a new and personal vision of a city that has captivated artists and writers for centuries." (back cover) A collection of Venice-themed poems by Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Dedicated to Crowe's long-time partner Nan Watkins, who also took the enchanting color photographs of Venice that are reproduced on front & back covers. A beautiful chapbook production of Mountains and Rivers Press (obviously an homage to Gary Snyder), first edition as stated on copyright page. On the title page, just below his printed name, Crowe has hand-written his signature in bold blue ink. A most inspired & collectible Crowe rarity. In very fine condition with only the slightest rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; staples in process of rusting at middle interior with no discernible bleeding. Interior very fine with only miniscule bumps at corners of a few page leaves; staple-rusting noted above. Very Fine. [Item #4079]
