Cullowhee, NC; Natal, Brazil: New Native Press/ Sol Negro Edicoes, 2013. First Edition. Softcover. Signed by Thomas Rain Crowe. "The only way I can think to describe the highlands of Peru, is to compare it to a painting by Chagall. "Chagall goes to the country," perhaps. Everywhere, there are alpacas, burros, and incandescent birds. And, at these heights, everything is a bit off-the-ground, floating, It's very surreal- which you, of all people, would love. Nothing can prepare one for this place." (from "Dear Ken," pg. 27) A bilingual edition of poems & epistolary writings by Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). The poems & writings are Crowe's commentaries-travelogues about his impressions of Peru. "Ken," to whom Crowe addresses the above quote, is undoubtedly Ken Wainio (1952-2006), the surrealist Baby Beat writer who was a close friend & cohort of Crowe's among their group who is discussed in SFSF. A co-production of Crowe's New Native Press imprint & a Brazilian publisher, the book is repeated in English & Spanish side-by-side in alternate directions with two front covers, both with reproductions of fanciful Peruvian landscapes by Robert Johnson, who also provides interior illustrations. Trade-format softcover original, first edition. On the title page of the English section, Crowe has hand-written his signature in bold blue ink. A beautiful & outstanding Crowe collectible. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing to covers & esp. spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4105]
