Cullowhee, NC: New Native Press, 2014. Limited First Edition. Softcover. Signed by publisher Thomas Rain Crowe. "Old Rob, a character based loosely on a real mountain neighbor I knew when I first bought my place on John's Creek. The real Rob was a retired logger who dabbled in real estate. What struck me as we talked on his porch was how he was sort of a seam character, like someone passing from the old mountain world into a purely modern one. That seemed like a fun personae and situation to play with. At the same time that I started on these poems I began to build a cabin on my place on the site of the original structure from the 19th century. I engaged a young mountain man to help me build it, someone who knew the old ways of framing what he called "a saw mill shack." Listening to this man gave me some of the stories that became Rob's experiences. In the end Rob emerged with a life and voice of his own and became charged with my own experiences in the mountains." (from Author's Note & back cover) A collection of "Rob"-themed poems by John Lane, the acclaimed South Carolinian poet, environmentalist & educator. A part of the "Stewardship Series" of New Native Press, the imprint of Thomas Rain Crowe, the noted poet & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075).
