New York, NY: E.P. Dutton, 1988. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. "Love in the Days of Rage is a work of Lyricism and commitment, painting and politics, passion and intellect- a prescient book to set beside the great expatriate novels of earlier generations. It was 1968, and the streets of Paris were alive with the graffiti of revolution..." (from front flap) A mid-late career work of recent-historical fiction by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the iconic figure of the Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance. As poet, prose writer, artist, publisher, bookseller & activist, Ferlinghetti has been in the forefront of American literature & culture for seven decades, still going strong as of this writing on the verge of his 102nd birthday! This novel of revolutionary passion & romance set in the "Days of Rage" phenomenon in Paris that came close to toppling the established order during the height of the 1960s global counterculture is an acclaimed, exemplary work in the vast Ferlinghetti oeuvre. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket, first (American) edition as stated on copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon. On the title page, Ferlinghetti has hand-written his signature (last name only per his usual custom) vertically next to title in bold black felt-tip ink. An essential collectible in the Ferlinghetti canon, especially rare with his signature. Book in very fine condition with only several thin lines, spots of (binding?) residue at areas just next to where cloth spine overlaps with front & back cover boards (undoubtedly slight flaw as issued); very light rubbing & spotting to edges of text block. Interior substantially mint but for one tiny spot of similar residue as above on blank surface of rear paste-down (likely also as issued). Dust jacket very fine with only tiny bumps & short, faint creases at thin edges & corners of front, back covers, spine & flaps; very slight rubbing & creasing to clear protective jacket which has been affixed to blank inner lower spine by previous seller or owner & therefore cannot be removed without risk of slight damage. Very Fine / Very Fine. [Item #4145]
