The Telephone Book

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2018. First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. Signed by Joe Napora. "This poem was begun in 1981, revised in 2005, revised again in 2017. Some of the references to the telephone are archaic now: the wires that once were ubiquitous, the circular dial phone, party lines, the monopoly by IT&T (International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation). What was the only telephone company now has competition, but once it had none, certainly none for its role in the 1964 military coup against...the president of Brazil and the support for the Pinochet coup in Chile in 1973." (from Note, final page, unpaginated) A collection of poems by Joe Napora, the passionate & prolific American poet, prose writer, editor, publisher & activist. The poems (many but not all of which directly relate to the telephone) are interspersed with historic quotes about the aspirations & implications of the telephone when it was a new technology. With Napora's original brief prose-poetic introduction, & updated as he notes in the above quote (we also offer a signed first edition of 1983, see Item No. 3899). A beautiful production of Napora's own BullHead imprint, chapbook in sewn binding with myriad graphics & images exemplary of the later Napora style. As with many of his more recent publications, there is no copyright or colophon-limitation information. On the title page, above his printed name, Napora has hand-written his signature in bold black ink. A quintessential Napora collectible, in very fine condition with only a bit of rubbing to front, back covers & sewn spine; a few tiny bumps & faint creases at thin edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at mostly upper corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4200]
