Three very early, contiguous numbers of the literary review journal Northeast Rising Sun, edited & with contributions by Charles Plymell & Pamela Beach Plymell, published by their Cherry Valley Editions imprint: (1) NRS Vol. 1 No. 2 (May 1976)- this second-ever issue features a review of Brion Gysin's great collaborative work with William S. Burroughs & Ian Sommerville, Brion Gysin Let the Mice In, by Paul Grillo; another of A.D. Winans' Tales of Crazy John & other works by Michael Scott Cain, ads for many CVE-published books & journals including WSB's Cobblestone Gardens & Mary Beach's (Pamela's mother) Electric Banana; & much more. With two loose sheets, one a facsimile letter typed & signed by Pamela promoting small press productions such as these; the other reprinting reviews of two books by or about Charles. (2) NRS Vol. 1 No. 3 (June-July 1976) featuring reviews including of Charles Bukowski's Poems Written Before Jumping Out of an 8 Story Window collection, Raymond Carver's At Night the Salmon Move, Tom Clark's At Malibu & WSB's The Book of Breething, all by Cain; an article on Anne Tyler co-authored by Cain; a review of Edward Dorn's Slinger by Gerard Grealish; & again much more. (3) NRS Vol. 1 No. 4 & 5 (double-number issue, 1976) featuring a review of Beach's Electric Banana by Brown Miller; a lengthy commentary of various literary journals by Charles; ads for CVE-published books & journals including another for WSB's Cobblestone Gardens on back cover; & again much more. Three vintage issues of this now-very scarce literary journal by the great Legendary Literary Outlaw, his equally great wife-collaborator & their talented critical staff- each with fascinating, important contemporary content from cover to cover. All in relatively near-fine-to-very-fine condition: (1) near-fine with mild rubbing, browning & spot-staining to front, back covers & stapled spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps, chips at edges & corners of same; upper of two staples loosened from covers but otherwise intact; staples in process of rusting with miniscule amount of interior bleeding. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of some page leaves; slight staple points noted above. (2) very fine with only very slight rubbing & light spot-staining to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves. (3) near-fine with mild rubbing & light spot staining to front, back covers & stapled spine; mild wear & tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; upper right & lower left corners of front covers have very small tears with slight loss of paper; one tiny hole-gauge at margin of front cover near upper left corner; short, closed tear at lower spine-edge & corner; mailing sticker of Toothpaste Press affixed to blank area of back cover. Interior fine-to-very-fine with very slight loss of graphics (not any of text) to inner front cover due to tears, hole described above; small-to-tiny bumps, creases at corners of page leaves, esp. lower corners.
