The Moscow Mitch

Ashland, KY: BullHead Books, 2019. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. "Every day I got the Monday Blues/ Every day Mitch is in the news/ It's all about the money/ and he's got plenty/ It's all about the money/ and I aint got any/ Every morning I got those Monday Blues" ("Moscow Mitch Blues," first stanza, unpaginated) Subtitled "Poetry How-To-Expose-/ Corruption-and Betrayal-of-the-/ Public-Trust-Handbook" on front cover, this is an activist pamphlet-poetry collection by Joe Napora, the passionate (never more than here) & prolific American poet, editor, publisher & activist. Napora adamantly wanted Mitch McConnell, the then-majority Leader of the United States Senate from Kentucky (Napora's home state) to be defeated in the 2020 election. With hindsight, we know McConnell won reelection & is now the Senate Minority Leader. On the first page, Napora proposes an anti-Mitch poetry contest, & writes: "Defeating Mitch McConnell for reelection to the Senate is more important than defeating Donald Trump. Will poetry help? If it can't, then what use is it? As our Nobel Prize folk Singer wrote, "The times they are a changing." True enough. But let's help change them for the better." With photo-collage of Sen. McConnell wearing a USSR symbol-emblazoned Soviet Kremlin parade-style fur hat on front cover. Chapbook in stapled wrappers, a production of Napora's own BullHead imprint, although this or any other copyright-colophon details are un-noted. A Jeremiad against American political greed, corruption & collusion; & a notable relic from the period leading up to the unprecedentedly surreal election of 2020 & its current aftermath. A unique Napora collectible. In fine condition with only very slight rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; two tiny pin-holes through back cover & last half of page leaves (as if a staple was removed) not effecting any graphics or legibility of any text; short, very faint creases at corners of page leaves. Fine. [Item #4233]
