Too Many People: An Eco-Tale for Children
ISBN: 1883197481
Cullowhee, NC: New Native Press, 2016. First Edition. Spiral Bound. Signed by Thomas Rain Crowe. "Tommy thought that it was strange that so many people would want to move away from their homes and live so close together and in such big houses. He didn't like seeing all the trees being cut down and the top of the mountain being pushed away by all the big machines. He frowned thinking how strange grown up people were, sometimes." (unpaginated) A children's book by Thomas Rain Crowe, the acclaimed poet, prose writer & publisher who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s (see our book, Starting From San Francisco, Item No. 3071, Deluxe Edition No. 3075). Here is a simple & strong message in favor of environmental-ecological preservation & against human-made sprawl that destroys natural & farm landscapes across the American continent. Crowe himself was born into & has long-returned to a beautiful, sparsely populated rural area of North Carolina, & is an activist for protecting the environment (see esp. Item No. 3759). A production of Crowe's own New Native Press imprint, first edition, large-format spiral-bound sheets. With many illustrations contrasting nature with the car-dependent, mostly very dispiriting built environment overtaking it (uncredited, presumably taken/ compiled by Crowe). On the title page, below his printed name, Crowe has hand-written his signature in black ink. An unusual & important Crowe collectible, highly recommended for children- & their parents. In very fine condition with only very slight, sparse rubbing to front cover; a few tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; mild rubbing to clear plastic protective back cover. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4253]
